Removing paint from acrylic

Okay gang. I've always had glass but I just committed to buying my first acrylic tank. It currently has a painted back but not in my preferred color. Any tips on how to SAFELY remove the paint?

I've done some reading in other forums but didn't find a good solid answer. Hoping to hear from some folks who have experience at this and can tell me the long term effect was safe (no clouding or discoloration).

Thanks!!

there is no good way.

Chemicals will marr the surface, sanding will too.

If it were me, Id sand it off and just respray it.

My tank was painted and I just sanded it till it was gone then painted it again. It takes a while to finally get all the paint off so don't get frustrated.

I guess it depends on what kind of paint they used. I painted the back of acrylic tank with acrylic paint. It's water soluble so if I want to change colors, I can jst wash the old paint off.

Have you tried just soap and water?

Picked up the tank yesterday and the good news is that he used an oil based paint and it's PEELING RIGHT OFF!! I'm hoping to find out what he used so I can be sure that MY paint will also peel when the time comes.

Anyone have a suggestion as to what kind of paint will peel (assuming latex?)
