Removing toadstool

I have a largish long polyp toadstool that is getting too big and shading half my reef. I don't really want to frag the head as I don't have room to keep the frags until they heal (only have a 12 gal).

My problem is, it's grown and attached to my main rock work.
Any suggestions on how to remove it?
What would happen if I just cut the stem at the base?

well if your gettin rid of it to your local fish store you can basicly hold it by the stem and peel it off the rock wit your fingers.. i wouldnt cut it from the base just peel it off and throw it in a bucket... or cut it right down the middle wit a razor and make two but this is a type of fraging

you could always remove the entire rock, but chances are, over time, no matter how you cut it, it will begin to regrow from stem leftovers

Well the rock is staing in, far too many corals encrusted to it. My question was really to find out how noxious it would be if I just cut the stem, I know they can release toxins and with my small tank volume, I am worried I might nuke the tank...

then you could easily cut the stem, and be sure to run carbon in your filter to help
