reproduction question

hey guys, this may be a semi boring question for you mushroom lovers but im more of a zoa guy and had never seen this before from a mushroom.

i have a red shroom, and one day it scooted over about 3 inches from where it normally is attached. But it left a small piece of mat, plain and grey about 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch. It stayed there for about 2 weeks doing nothing, and now i notice a new mushroom oddly forming out of it??

is this normal?

I find that the mushrooms tend to move in cycles. In my tank my striped ones that are growing really well right now the mushroom has moved several times. It started with one and after about a month it moved over and within 2 weeks there were 4 new shrooms growing and in about 3 weeks now they are almost dime sized with color. It is actually moving again and I am thinking about cutting the foot a little from behind it in hopes of a new mushroom forming from the flesh that is left on the rock.
