Requesting lighting data for giant clams.

Greetings everyone,

I'm a few days away from wrapping up a re-write/update of my giant clams book, but would like to add in some more information about lighting if possible. If anyone has had a clam for several months (at the least) and has any lighting intensity numbers (PAR, etc.) to share, I would greatly appreciate it. Please provide an ID (or photo), how long you've had it, type of lighting system, and reading where the clam is.

I have several numbers for different species already, but I'd be especially interested in seeing some from someone with a hippopus. I don't have any numbers for that one, at all.

Thanks!

James

I have a Squamosa, a Dersa, and Crocea for many years, but don't have any pars sorry
I keep them mid-Reef and in the sand under 2, VISPARSPECTRA 165w leds, running 100% blue and 1% white.

100% blue, 50% white, violet, green, yellow

Squa and Dersa like the sand bed.
The Crocea like the rock work.

It has been a few years since I met you at our local club.

I have attached a picture of my Gigas in my office tank which will move to my home in a much larger tank plumbed into my 180. The Par reading where the clam is located is 250. Lighting is provided by 3 Build my Led fixtures. Two are XB 20K (mimic Radium MH) and the third is Actinic Blue. Definitely some growth in a short amount of time. The picture was taken this morning with lights off.

Nothing specific. I had a T. derasa about 28 inches below a Hamilton 10K 400w mh, about 4 inches off center. It grew from 3 inches to a foot in 5 years. Died when a confused clownfish nested in it.

Thanks for the information guys :)

Alton, I can't believe that trip to S.A. was over 7 years ago! Time flies...
Nice that you got one of the gigas quick. Looks to be doing well.
