Rescaping project just shifted into high gear

So today I have enlisted the help of a "pro" to get my tank ready for a shift in direction. Right now its all softies and a crap ton of anemones. The anemones have to go in preparation for LPS and SPS conversion. I also learned last night that I am getting a bit of a bonus from work which has me feeling pretty good about investing in some new equipment.

I was already really leaning toward a new GHL Profilux4 controller. Now with last nights news I am thinking of stretching that budget to include the Kh Director and Doser 2.1 as well as an additional Doser 2.1 2 head slave. since the director requires 3 heads. This would allow me to dose two part and have one extra head as a backup. Thoughts?

I am also adding some additional power to the room with a dedicated circuit just for the aquarium.

Sweet! Lucky you! Where are you located? I may be interested in an anemone

If you are planning a conversion to LPS/SPS, a doser would be a must have. Sure you can hand dose, but that's going to get tedious and annoying. I have a stand alone GHL 2.1 and they don't come any better than these units. Got one used. You may consider a 4 head. Alk/Cal/Mg(seldom needed but still nice to have)/Carbon. That's my set up.

Good luck with the rescape. It can be tough for some of us to resist the urge to constantly tweeky the look (myself included). Just prepare extra new salt water to replace what is lost/spilled during work.

Well if I do the KH Director it will have a 4 head doser with it and I will add an additional 2 head at a minimum giving me 3 available heads out of the gate. That being said its not much more to just grab a second 4 head.

How many are you trying to achieve total? Three, four, or more?

Six at the bare minimum. If the Kh Director requires 3. That leaves me with the ability for Ca, Alk, and mg with the one extra plus a 2 head unit. For about $100 the 2 head becomes a 4 head. Extra insurance or additional uses?

The reason for the rescape is two fold... My initial rock scape was nice but where I went wrong was getting in a hurry and a deal you couldn't pass up from a buddy that shut his tank down. I took his rocks and coral and essentially inserted them into my tank.

since then the anemones which started as two are now likely about 40 (literally). It also has created a crowded space for the fish and i only have four at the moment. So the intent is to remove all of the anemones and open it up a bit. hopefully expunge most of the manjo's as well. I will try to save the two gorgonians and some mushrooms that I have.

Next will be the hardware upgrades and getting the tank parameters good and stable for the new corals and possibly a few more fish.

That means one 4 head unit just for the KH Director. If I understand it correctly it takes three pumps just to run that testing unit and a forth to actually dose the Alk....

If that's correct you may want to pair with a calcium reactor which would better maintain stable Alk/Cal vs going the route of a second dosing unit.

Hopefully someone with experience with that unit can find this thread and give some experienced advise.

Yeah that makes sense but like you I just lack the experience to make the right decision so hopefully someone will chime in. Though looking at reactors I don't know if I have the space for more equipment in the sump. If I put it external I run the risk of leaks. The war my system is designed now it is 100% impossible to flood the display or the sump even if no power and the full ato emptied into the sump. Any leaks in the plumbing will ultimately trickle into the sump.

I love my 4 head Doser 2.1 as well, great choice with GHL. I'm not a techy kind of guy so the computer side of it was a slight headache, but once I got it running it kinda seemed pretty simple actually. The P4 and Kh director will need a little more computer skills but I certainly wouldn't let that stop me. Great products. I would always go with 4 heads on any doser I buy, you might want to dose vinegar, dose mag or amino supplements, or you can use as ATO pump.
