Return pump seized today?!?

Hi all,
I have a Blueline 40HD that seized up on me today. The buildup was relatively easy to clean off with a soft brush and everything is back up and running. The pump has been in place on my basement sump for about 6 weeks. I estimate about 12' of head, and the pump is dialed back to about 250 GPH. I drip Kalk and use two part to keep alk around 8 dkh and calcium around 400.

Is it normal for a pump like this to seize up in this way? Luckily I was home when it happened and was able to fix it right away. Should I plan to clean the pump monthly?

Thanks!

6 weeks is kind of a short time to seize up with calcium deposits. Are you dripping right near the input of the pump? Can you move the drip lines further away from the pump in your sump so it mixes a little more before it hits the pump?

I'm dripping right where the return comes down so it gets mixed around real good. The sump holds about 30 gallons so it has a good volume to mix with.

I should also add that I've only been dripping Kalk for about 1 week now. Before that it was all two part dosing.
