Return pump size

Hey everyone,

I was curious if a Mag-Drive 9 at 950 gph is too large for a 72 gallon AGA Bowfront tank with a single overflow?

I was using a Mag 7 but the pump died and I had a brand new Mag 9 laying around and was curious if this would work. My only concern is if the drain will not be able to keep up with the return pump. (Note: I don't currently have any valves to alter the flow of water coming from the return pump to the tank)

Yes... it would be fine. You'll probably need to turn it down a bit, which a simple ball valve can fix. Make sure that you put the ball valve on the output or else you can damage the pump. GL!
