Hi Chris, last time I used a 400 watt Iwasaki and eventually a 10,000K Ushio, both old school bulbs, in an old school Hamilton/Champion-style parabolic reflector. That light system is being used for something different now.

This system has a 250 watt double ended Ushio 14,000K in a Lumenarc mini running on an Icecap electronic ballast. The Lumenarc is incredible compared to the ancient parabolic I use on the 400 watt. To the eye, the 250 watt appears as bright as the 400 watt (obviously, that's an extremely qualitative statement). For a 14,000K, the Ushio is extremely white; I was quite surprised.

The first coral is picked up at an Austin LFS, not an SPS, but SPS are next. Diploastrea heliopora, my favorite non-SPS species.
