Have you done any tests of the hang-on skimmer, possibly comparing it to the LX1000? I'm thinking about one of these for my 75gal mixed reef. I'm currenlty running a Tunze internal skimmer and it really doesn't pull much. Also considering the Eshopps hang-on just to save some $$$.
