Ok so i got home from my lfs today and for 40 bucks i picked up a ricordea that was about 4 inches wide!!! It was huge and bright orange. I put him in my tank and went to eat dinner. I came back to find 3 ricordeas!!!! It had split. I am amazed and confused. Anyone know anything about it?

pictures would be a huge help..it generally doesn't happen that fast. Maybe it was originally 3 on one rock?

Yea when they split I think they take about a week or so. maybe there was a couple hiding underneath the big one?

Ricordeas can sometime bunch up and sort of hide their mouths with their disc. So you might have always had three mouths, and just not noticed it. Ricordeas splitting takes FOREVER. So I would probably chalk this up to not noticing, than rapid fission.

I have some that are mid split since August/September. They do hide their mouths well though. I picked up a small frag the other day and once I got it home I noticed it had 4 mouths on it.
