RIO SEIO M620 pump

Just hooked up my new SEIO pump (620gph) in my 60 gallon tank. I must admit I was a bit diappointed in the flow. It seems quit weak. I have it wide open and the pressure is just not there. I know it is designed to be a diffused flow but it is much less than I thought.
Anyone else have this experience? Also, is this pump enough as far as water movement is concerned? I have a Sea Clear Uniquarium tank(integrated wet/dry filter) this is run by a Rio 1700 pump. Are these two pumps enough for my tank or should I add another powerhead to cover any dead spots? By the way, I have a FOWLR tank. Your comments are appreciated.
p.s. If another powerhead is in order can someone recommend a good one.

I've heard of the Seio 620 not putting out what people expect... I'm more then happy with my Seio 1500's-- I get a ton of flow across my tank-- with just a single 1500 I get, a pretty strong current across my 6 foot (135 gallon) long tank and a counter current back across the bottom (the other direction)...

I will tell you to make sure the inlet ports around the diameter of the seio are fully open (they are adjustable to dial down flow)
 
Drop a little flake food or Cyclopeze in front of it and look again. The flow is more gentle but there is a ton of flow for 8 watts. Also if you haven't already strip all the junk off it and mount it Tunze style, it makes a big difference.
 
Good idea, thanks for the input! So just remove the bulky strainer and the directional flow port? Is that it?

yeah pull of the directional port and strainer. that is how these things should be used in a reef tank :)

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. The only reason I didn't do that right away on my 620s was because I was afraid a snail or worm or something would get sucked into the input slits.

Another good reason to remove the elbow and outer part is because I noticed that detrius also tends to accumulate inside them.
 
Got it, Thanks again! Forgive my ignorance, but what is the mag float for? Im guessing so you can have a portable powerhead yeah? Cool idea!
 
Suctions cups are notorious for failing and dropping your powerheads into the sand creating a mess. Siliconing or glueing them to a magnet eliminates this. Although with my 2 seios I have only had one drop twice in two years.
 
im considering a seio m620 for my 29g. i plan to get a bta anemone in the future.. what can be done for anemone protection on the seios??
 
It shouldn't be a problem, the intakes are just a series of small slits and not very wide. I suppose you could also wrap a piece of netting around it but it would end up being a detritus trap.
 
I have 2 620's in my 75G, at first I thought the flow was weak, but after seeing the fish swim in it, I'm happy with them, especially for only putting out 8 watts!!
 
I had a long tentacle anemone sucked into an unprotected Seio 620. Not good. Fortunately it survived and has flourished, but it was touch and go for 2-3 weeks. It was pretty torn up. Sitting there with half the tentacles gone, a few good sized tears and gaping like no tomorrow...

Problem is mainly when anemone's are first introduced when they wander around before settling. But, of-course they can wander off later on as well. Mine got into "base jumping" from the rockwork and a couple of days after introduction got caught by the circulation and sucked into the Seio. I actually heard a noise coming from the tank just as I was going to bed, didn't think too much about it and then found the anmone wrapped around the power head the next morning. There were bits of purple tentacles all over the tank. Took and hour to get him off.

The shrimp are also often perching on the power heads. I use the protective covers religously now...Definately a drawback with the Seio's...
 
They only seem to have problems when the users try to turn them down in flow. What that does is close off some holes and all the suction comes from just a few holes instead of them all. My snails clean the intake slits and my cleaner shrimp lives on the top of mine. I have 1500's. I used to have 2 620's but found that by diffusing the stream so wide I was able to have a lot more flow w/o it being such a tight stream output so I went with 1500's.
