I saw this hawk on a thread here on RC & I thought it was VERY cool looking!!! Does anyone have any info on these fish? I have a 250 FO & due to my hawian trigger the typical hawks I cannot use thus I need one that's BIG :)

Any info on size cost etc would be greatly appreciated!!

They get big - 20 inches. Some other hawks like foresters and arc-eyes get pretty big also and can handle themselves. The only rivvulatus I ever saw was quite expensive $175 ish, IIRC.

i've had two (still have the second one) but have seen a couple others- so 4 total in about 5 years! not very common - all between 40 and 90 dollars.

They are quite rugged, and quite nasty - I think their motto is "if I can't eat it I will harass it to death." :D The upside is they can go with big, mean tankmates and generally hold their own. The only fish I had with the first one that it didn't bother were a large-ish volitan lion and a undulated moray - the latter actually ended up biting the side off the hawk (it recovered somehow).

Do NOT mix with anything shaped like it (unless much larger), or anything prone to stress.

The best part about them IMO is their personality, I actually have found both of mine to be quite moody. Sometimes they go on hunger strikes for a day or two, sometimes they will eat everything that hits the water. Sometimes they will sit right out front for you, sometimes you won't see them all day. Very unique (or I would not have bought another one :D)!

well crap then :) thanks for the info everyone!!!!

Here's my tank & my planned inhabitants

260g FO

present inhabitants

hawian trigger - he's 10+ inches long
atlantic blue tang - 8 ish inches.... VERY mean :(
harlequin tusk - 6-8 inches
3 stripe damsel -was my brothers fish...probably 8yrs old now :)
blue hep tang - 5 inches

I hope to get a sohal tang
naso tang
powder blue tang
possibly a yellow tang

I will probably sell the blue tang due to his temper :(

so would the hawk be a good bet or should I wait untill I get a bogger tank in a few years? I have always loved the flame hawks I have owned in years past but my trigger likes chasing/eating them due to their size :(

thanks again !!

I would not put it in a tank of tangs - actually... I would... but I wouldn't recommend it to others. You definitely need to decide if you want an aggro tank or not. If yes - then hawk. If not - then get something big and easy going and hope your trigger doesn't jack it up.
