I had one and went it with a RODI because the LFS did not understand it. I have three locations that I used water. One has TDS of 200, one is 80, and last is below 10. If your TDS are very low, a unit like this would work well. Possibly add a DI, or just use DI and all will be OK. If you have high TDS, your filters will exhaust sooner, so a RO/DI will be better. If your water is expensive, you may want to go with the filter. RO units at best have a 4:1 ratio. Takes 5 gallons to make 1. The filter replacement on the Cold unit cost more every replacement.
If Phosphates and Silicates are a problem you have to add the Al filter, which is expensive.
The Cold unit is a very good water filter that leaves some TDS behind and the RO/DI takes everything out and lets you start with 0.
Like everything, pluses and minuses.
