Hello, I am looking to buy a Ro/di . I found some on Ebay. Ebay Page

It looks like a good deal just dont know if anyone has any opinion on the brand and or if they have experience with them. Let me know Thanks

Ive had some people tell me well what about the filters when you need to change them. What if they are not common brand? I just figured for the price of the kit and the cost of filters. Id prob most likely buy a new system if couldn't find the filters :p

If your only using a small amount of water, 25 gallons a month or so, then remove the last stage & that one may work for you.

But a cheaper RODI can cost you more in the long run.
I would Get a pressure gauge, and TDS meter. Test your home water for both and detirmine how much water you are going to use. That will give you a better idea of what RODI to buy.

This will be for a 115gallon tank. With about 1gallon or a lil more evap just about every other day or more. Then you have water changes and such. So I think prob about 40gallons a month at most. I will most likly just turn the system on when I need the water. I would more then likly remove that last stage as i wouldnt need it. I might as well take some out for drinking water as well :p Im more or less looking to see if anyone thinks this would be an okay system or if they are crap.

Here we go this one gets rid of the 6th stage and adds another di to make sure the water is the cleanest.

Diff RO DI

I think im going to try it out :p very tempted just would like to know if anyone had any experience with them.

The second is better for reef tanks. 40 gallons a month, if your Tap TDS is on the low side that one should be fine. Just replace the carbon filter with a good carbon block Chlorine gluzzler.
You might want to turn the DI cartages vertical & add a pressure guage to it.

Forget ebay and the "too good to be true" deals. With RO/DI you get what you pay for and cheap is just that.

A few things on those units that are not suitable for reef units are granular activated carbon and 100 GPD membranes. GAC has a very short life, grinds itself to dust plugging the membrane or downstream filters and has no value in a reef.
A 100 GPD membrane, if its a Dow Filmtec, which they do not specify is the absolute worts membrane available. I would not buy from that vendor mainly because they don't tell you who makes it. If they don't specify you can bet its a clone or knock off and not brand name equipment.

Look at vendors who know the needs of reef keepers like

I bought one of those about a year or so ago, worked good for me. I did add a vertical DI after about 6 months and have been getting 0 TDS with around 450 in. I'm going to change out the filters in about a month with ones from bulk reef supply. I think it was a good buy for filling the tank which is going to eat threw the filters anyway and just upgrade them later
