Ro/di

I am looking at starting up a 12 gallon reef tank. The problem is that I don't have a lot of money to spend on this. So I'm looking for a used RO/DI unit. It doesn't have to be a high output one, or even a newer one. I just want one that works and is really cheap. I live about 10 mintues away from the buffalo international airport. Thanks for your help.

Free r/o

Free r/o

You may really want to check out ARC in Cheektowaga. They normally give you 5 gallons of free R/O every visit if you want it.... Especially if you buy a 5 gallon carboy container from them. I don't think I've ever told anyone not to get an R/O, but it seems like a comparitevely big expense for a 12 gallon tank.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I thought about using distilled water, but according to the members on another forum I belong to, you absolutely need to us RO water. but, if I could find a used one for cheap or free(wishful thinking), it might be worth it. I'd hardly ever have to change the cartridges. What's the full name of ARC? And what could be my alternative to buying a unit? Buying the water? Thanks.

Hmm..I have never heard that using distilled water is bad,all distilled water has a tds of zero.

even if you have access to distilled water or free RODI you probably don't have access to it in an emergency in the middle of the night. a RODI unit should be your first purchase IMO, even if you need to save for it for awhile.

Honestly, I'd either invest in a brand new one or take Dave's advice and get it 5G at a time from ARC. Why? Because if/when you buy a used R/O and the membrane goes, it'll cost you $100 for a new one not to mention replacement filters. At that point, a brand new 90GPD is less than $100 more.
