RO filter question

I have noticed that I seem to be replacing the first stage filter too often, like every 3 weeks. I need to know if the water in my area could be this bad or could it have something to do with me leaving the ro unit full after each use. Should I drain the water from the unit after each use? About every 3 weeks the first stage filter stars turning yellow which is when you are supposed to replace it. Any info would be helpful

The first stage is most likely a sediment filter, right? I personally would change mine when it starts to get clogged and reduces flow. It sounds like changing after it starts to discolor is premature.

Color change doesn't mean its plugged. Get a pressure gauge and put it after the prefilter and carbon and go by pressure drop. Color just means you have iron or other contaminants in the water. You don't have it outside exposed to direct sunlight do you, if so thats bad as it will cause bacteria, algae and virus growth inside the housings.
