For a domestic well system the best filter around is the 0.2 micron ZetaZorb from www.spectrapure.com . It is an absolute rated filter so nothing gets past it larger than 0.2 microns unlike nominal rated prefilters which only have to trap a small portion of the sediment or particulates equal to its micron rating. It is also pleated so it has 10x more surface area so is much less prone to plugging and pressure drop even though it has a finer rating.
