You say you have a post carbon filter? If so use it only for drinking water as it adds TDS back into the water. They are fine for taste and odor removal but they are granular carbon which degrades and turns to dust, this could be part of your high 25 TDS problem.
If its 8 months old, have you replaced the prefilter and carbons at 6 months as recommended? My next comment may not sit well but I believe the Whirlpool systems do not use a standard 1812 style TFC Dow Filmtec RO membrane. The nipple configuration on the ends is slightly different and you have to use a 1810 or 1814 membrane which is harder to find and more expensive. It would probably be cheaper to buy a new 75 GPD membrane and housing at the same time than replacing the existing membrane. This is also true of the Sears units I have seen too.
EDIT: I checked and its the 1810 membrane for sure, not a standard 1812 series in the Whirlpool.
Buying the MaxCap is a good option but since you already have a system you might see what can be done to improve its efficiency, at least economically. PM me and we can look at options. I did the same with my old Watts Premier and have a good idea of costs and benefits.
