RO water in Athens?

Yikes -- after a *horrible* cross country trip with all the delays and closures alone interstate 40, I am fighting to keep my fish and corals alive and need to do water changes. My RO unit froze and may not function anymore; I don't have the adapters I need for the faucets I have access to anyway.

I have enough salt for a while but I need RO water. Anyone know where there is a water machine or some other source of RO water in bulk in or near Athens?

Coral Reef Aquatics near Athens usually have a good amount of RO water for sale. You can call them at 604-9773 to get the price and the direction to the store. They are open Thu, Fri, and Sat from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Sunday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Yep, those are the two sources I use...usually Walmart because it's closer and always open. Their Culligan water usually checks out at 3-5 with a TDS meter, sometimes slightly higher.

Thanks!

Coral Reef Aquatics' website says they are open only Saturday and Sunday -- did that change?

Yes, their hours changed. They really need to keep their website updated. Evidently a friend of theirs put together their website and the person is really busy to keep it updated. So we recently put an announcement for their new hours on our NARC website (www.northalabamareefclub.com).

By the way, welcome to Alabama. Are you going to live in Athens area? I am in Madison - we are practically a neighbor.

Tomoko

In Athens for at least a while, while I look for a house. I will be in the Huntsville area... somewhere.

Unfortunately, in all this mess I lost my gorgeous rock and a sandbed live enough to creep out Anthony Calfo. There is almost no way anything survived on it just about freezing for 2 days, although I am nursing it now to see if I can save anything.

I don't remember who I promised snails to, but I only have a few babies left that were hitchhiking on the algae and maybe the small bits of rock and coral skeleton. They'll repopulate, I hope, but they have to grow up first. If need be, I like these snails so much I'll place another order to IPSF when I get settled in and will be happy to host the order for anyone else who wants stuff from them.

I was the one who asked for the snail. If your baby snails do not make it, please let me know when you place an order to IPSF.

Well, I lost my beautiful Tonga yellow leather that I grew from a tiny baby. :( No chance of even fragging and saving a bit.

I did get RO water today and with the rotting leather out of the cooler, hopefully I will have an easier time with the ammonia in that cooler.

I see one adult snail, an old one. The babies are really hard to see, so I don't know about those yet.

I am sorry about your loss. I don't have any yellow leather, but I have a number of softies and stonies. Let me know when you are ready. I will frag you some corals that you like to have.

Tomoko

Thanks for the offer, Tomoko. I will really miss it -- it was about 10" across when open and I have had it for many years. I guess this gives my neon green sarcophyton frag more room to grow, though. Hopefully someday it will be as big!

My stand took a beating in the move and I haven't cleaned it yet, but the inside of my tank looks more scratched. I may be in the market for whole new tank/stand when I find a house.

Goodness, it must have been a real rough move for you and your tank mates. I hope you find a nice house and start reefing soon :)

Hi Nicole!

Sorry to hear about the rough times. Hope things get better and you can get back up to speed soon. I know you have a passion for the hobby and your experience and participation added to the knowledge base.

All you in AL should know our CA loss is your gain. Nicole remained one of the most helpful members in our SoCal forum even in it's most trying times. ;)

Nicole!!!!! I saw you were on RC but not in SoCal forum. I then checked Alabama forum and here you are :(

If you need to repopulate your sandbed let me know. Remember the cupful of sand you gave me with the worms? Well, they have definately populated the sandbed so let me know if you want me to send some to you. Never sent any livestock via mail so not sure how that would work.

You alabamians are very lucky to get Nicole. She has a wealth of knowledge and is always willing to help out. Don't let her 15 gal nano fool you into thinking she is a noob!! We are all going to miss her dearly.

Take care

Julie

We are really happy to have Nicole in Alabama! Looking forward to meeting her and benefiting from her expertise! :spin3:
Nicole, I lost a yellow tonga leather in a heater mishap a couple of years ago...really a sick feeling :( I have three fairly large Sarcophyton in my 75g now. None of them is a Tonga yellow (although one is kind of yellowish), but once you get up and running I can frag one for you if you'd like.

Thanks for the offer, Mariner. I will probably just limp along with the setup and livestock I have running now until I find a house and move. My purple and neon lobophyllia is not looking so hot either, now.

I'm leaning towards building a home right now, so that may be a while before I do anything. If anyone knows a trustworthy and skilled general contractor, let me know.

Hey, Julie! I should have enough of the little white worms cemented to the underside of the corals do repopulate, I hope, and pods clinging to the algae. I've seen mini bristles in the cooler with the fish already. Spaghetti worms and peanut worms... probably all dead. Mini sand-bed cukes, gone. But those cool big sandbed fan worms are what I would really like back, and I don't think they ever survived in anyone's tank that I gave them to. I have never seen them anywhere else, either. Phooey. Anyone got these?

Lynn Persell. Builds a lot in Limestone County. (small homes, town homes, mansions, whatever). There are others as well. Check with the Homebuilder's Assocation.
