RO water smells fishy

my RO water smells fishy, as in, like fish

I have always assumed it was just because I was around my tank that it smelled that way, but I noticed it away from the tank today

any ideas?

Do you store it in a container? Does the cotainer have a lid? Could it have have gotten contaminated somhow dirt dust?

well, my top off container has a lid (not sealed, but would keep dust/dog hair out)

but this is also coming from freshly made water seconds after coming out

mine becomes fishy smelling when filters need replacing. I'm assuming it's the carbon going bad. But I'm not 100% sure.

which would partially explain my recent tank disasters (cyano everywhere, huge algae bloom)

the filters have been running about 9 months

thanks BK, I had one in my cart from thereefstop, but I took it out because I didnt have enough $$ in the paypal, so I'm getting one next time I have aquarium money to spend

i have that same tds meter hooked up to my ro/di and it works great...

usually when your ro product water smells its time to change carbon and di if your using it. the tds meters really help in letting you know when its time before it starts to smell . i buy my filters and di resin in bulk and save alot of money this way
