I dunno without seeing the exact chemical makeup, since it says a "propritary solution' with calcium chloride (77-80% of what Dowflake is), Sodium Chloride (Dowflake is only 4.3% of this), Magnesium chloride (DF is 0.07%), Potasium Chloride (DF doesn't contain any, unless it's under "impurities").
On the topic a couple weeks ago I went to Donner Summit to do some playing in the snow, figuring on the way back I'd pick up some dowflake or something... nothing, nada, zip, they had a bunch of magnesium chloride, or sodium chloride products, but no calcium chloride, infact the only CaCl2 I found was those prestone pellets which I've heard are a good substitute but a 10 pound jug or so of them (which wasn't very much) cost $15.
