Syracuse always will have clear roads.

Oh man, I haven't had a good laugh like that in a LONG time!
I grew up in Buffalo, have lived the last 20+ years in Rochester, and can't tell you how many times I've driven through Syracuse during the winter (it's in the hundreds). But, aside from possibly the stretch of 90 from Dunkirk to Erie and Route 9 through Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont, I don't know of ANYPLACE that CONSISTENTLY has WORSE road conditions in the winter than Syracuse. I drove through the Swiss Alps TWICE last year in the middle of February and the roads were better 690 and 81 are when it's snowing.
I just drove back from Philly through Syracuse not a month ago and where were the roads the absolute worst?!?! You guessed it...in and around Syracuse (81N, 690W, and 90W to about Port Byron). For that 40 miles, I averaged about 25 mph, which was easily 20 mph slower than anyplace else on the trip. The roads still weren't great the rest of the way on 90 from Syracuse to Rochester, but I was at least able to do 45 mph.
And this isn't necessarily a knock on the Syracuse road crews...they just get more snow than we do out West. Not a ton more, but 20% more in a season, and that certainly works against them.
As a note, the WORST of this upcoming storm is supposed to hit the Eastern part of the state. So, if I were going to go anywhere, it would be West, and not East.
