Rock alive rather than dead?

i recently picked up a bunch of rock from a local reefer who shut down his tank about a year ago. It was sitting in the tank with water (just periodic top ups is all the attention it got) and no heater. When i checked the temp it was 65F ...ish, cant quite remember. I assumed the rock had no life left in it and bought it assuming it was as good as base rock. I brought it home and threw it in a empty tank that was running. I went down there and saw little snails creeping about the tank that were not there before the rock was. My plan is to add this rock to my main display tank, but am not sure if i should boil the rock or just toss it in- anyone want to chime in on this?

i had assumed there was no life on it so why not clean it up anyway. if its got life in it, then i don't want to do that. Basically im just unsure of whats going to stay alive in there for a year at 60 F?

bacteria most likely, which I think would be beneficial.....the snails well if they have survived that long in there with no "meat" then they are likely beneficial as well and will clean up...just my opinion though
