Rock Cleaning Question...

I want to remove my rock from my tank and put into a trashcan with clean water. Scrub them with an agressive brush and shake out all the detrius.. then return to the tank.

My question is can I just do this with RODI or should I use saltwater?

I do not have any corals glued to them, just want to scrub off some of the algae and return to the main tank for biological filtration. I guess I am just concerned that a fresh water dip while scrubbing will harm their biological filtration capacity.. or should that kinda life be just fine?

Why not do it after you drain the water from a water change, that way the water will be of the same ph and temperature and only the stuff you shake off or brush off is removed.

Otherwise, you risk bleaching your coraline, killing the hitchhikers that live inside the rock that could cause an ammonia spike.
