rotating bio media in QT?

Wondering, for thos eof you who rotate bio media (spinges, balls, etc) from DT to QT...how do you get the old meds out of it? I know carbon takes it out, but I'd have to think it wouldn't take all of it out, or does it? Bleach, vinegar, or?
I plan on/need to do this, but am afraid of putting the QT media back in the DT.

I would not rotate material between QT and DT....Use something cheap enough you can always use new.
