Rotifers stick to glass?

Hi guys,

So I started a rotifer culture from live rotifers in a 10 gallon tank. Never tried this, so I have no idea what is normal!

Is it normal for the rotifers to hang out on the glass?

My routine (I just started, so it's hard to really call anything a routine) is to clean the glass with a brush, and then siphon out 25% of the water.

To my surprise, the next day, the glass will be covered once again in rotifers.

I thought they just swam around.... But these guys look like they are sticking to the glass.

If I don't clean the glass, then it grows a thin film. I assumed it was this bio-film that was causing the rotifers to stick. But after cleaning the glass, the film is gone and the rotifers keep sticking.

Attached is a bad pic of what I'm talking about. The dots are the rotifers.

Are you sure they are rotifers? Could they be a copepod? Do you have a microscope or a jeweler's loupe?

100% sure they are rotifers. Actually I was surprised to see the live culture came contaminated with copepods.

Jason, do they stick and die? Or are they just... resting?

(resting rotifers? :D)
