Rough Night...Any Suggestions?

Ok...I figured I'd do it all in one turn...I did a water change, put in a new skimmer, and a new return pump...However, the hose coming into my MegaFlow Series 2 sump makes a gurgeling sound and when I switched to the Mag 9, it has started leaking from the sides where there is a gap on each side...I went from a mag 7 which made the same noise but I've never had any problems...I ended up breaking the little cover that goes over the bio balls that was leaking and tried to fix it but ran into the same problems...So, now, I have my tank with water under it and pushed out from the wall...Any suggestions?

No, where the hose comes in from the standpipe it runs through a prefilter into the bioballs...Well about every 10 seconds the water rushs (water in the overflow drops quickly) and the water pushes out of the sump on the sides...I'll look for a pic to explain it better.

It sounds liek you need a bigger drain because your overflow is flushing in stead of draining.

does the drain line enter the sump underwater?

what it is doing is there is a large amount of air in the line, it is being trapped and when finally released it burps, causing a siphon which rapidly drops the water level in your overflow...as steve mentioned, its flushing like a toilet and not draining

if it enters underwater, you need to adjust it...otherwise fine tune your pump w/ ball or else if you're rocking a durso you need to make the hole smaller since you are trying to handle more flow now

That sounds about right. If you are running a Durso, experiment with making the hole smaller/larger and see if your flushing problem goes away.

I was thinking about the durso if you have one too. If the hole is too small or absent it will suction until it breaks the water line then fill up and repeat. You will see the water level in the overflow go up and down with a flush sound at the lowest level.

Hope the acrylic cement fixed the crack.

I have the same sump, but a series 3. Did you use the long piece of tubing that came with it to connect the overflow and sump? Mine did the same thing because the tubing was so long it looped around before it got to the sump. If you straighten it out, it should stop.
