I recently added rox 0.8 carbon to my 100 gal reef some corals started dying is this common ?

Yes, it is possible, especially if you have not used carbon before (or for a long time) and used a large amount.

It's definitely possible and has happened to me more than once. I have a net water volume of around 110 gallons and using .25 cups of ROX carbon after using none for a while will result in STN. Usually just burnt tips. I'd recommend about 1/8 cup of ROX to start with your water volume. Then after a month of that, slowly bump it up.
