Running a fallow tank..

I have been treating my fish for ick in a hospital tank, and my display has been running fallow.

My question is, how long is long enough for a fallow tank? I am currently at 2 weeks, and plan on reintroducing my fish this weekend. I'm convinced that the fish will have enough time to be cured, but i'm not sure if the display has had enough time to be rid of the last of the ick.

I raised the temp of the display to 85* during the two weeks of being fallow. I know it's not supposed to make much of a difference in marine ick life cycles, but i figured any little bit of help couldn't hurt.

2 weeks is risky. 4 weeks is pretty standard and 6 weeks to be safe... I did 6 weeks on my only ich outbreak just to be sure, I didn't want to run it fallow again.

ich can last 4 weeks with out fish, but some people have observed ich after 6 weeks

Whats a fallow tank?

Running a tank with out fish to rid it of fish disease/parasites.

Sounds like your trying to cause a recycle to rid them. If your tank is running with no stock then i would add some meds then let it wait before re adding stock. Many fish can have ick with no signs but if they become stressed it will show. So besure the tank water is in top condition for best results.

6 weeks is recommended. you already have them there, so save yourself some major heartache and do the FULL 6 weeks. make sure you run any new fish you get in the same QT for a good month after the last sign of any disease or parasite. this will keep your display happy and healthy.

deamonsp you know what CUC is and i didnt and you ragged me, so here it is: you should know what fallow is by now.

Fallow actually means a light-yellowish brown color. Or cultivated land that is allowed to lie idle during the growing season.

What are you talking about, fallow is a word. Spelled FALLOW.

Holy-Fra-Holy. Sorry I offended you oh serious god of the East.

OK Downhill, calm down.

fal·low
1. (of land) plowed and left unseeded for a season or more; uncultivated.
2. not in use; inactive
3. land that has undergone plowing and harrowing and has been left unseeded for one or more growing seasons.
4. to make (land) fallow for agricultural purposes.
5. pale-yellow; light-brown; dun.

Did you add #6? hehe. the tank probably wont re-cycle... if you have corals and inverts, just feed them a little here and there. should be fine.

my clowns came down with ich and i treated them in a separate qt tank and left the display fallow for 6 weeks.

2 weeks later, they were covered again...

i then quarantined and treated them in a separate tank for 8 weeks...

now there isn't any ich at all..

i would do 8 weeks... its soo not worth it to get 6 weeks in, and instead of waiting 2 more weeks, you have to wait 8 more because you gave in...

just speaking from experience..
