rusty sand?

Could a rusty looking sediment filter cause the sand to be rusty looking also?

Probably its dinoflagellates? Instead of rust

I think hegen meant diatoms.. not dinos..
A new tank will go through a diatom bloom which looks like red dust..
It can also happen in an established system when there is an influx in silicates,etc..

Pictures would help id the problem.. Remember to turn the blue channel of your lights down/off as blue distorts proper color rendition which can be important in identification..

It could be diatoms and even cyano..

When is the last time you changed your RO/DI filters?

When is the last time you changed your RO/DI filters?

Changed the DI about a month ago and the sediment and 2 carbon about 2 weeks ago.the membrane is due for a change.Did notice the sediment filter seem to get dirty faster than normal.
