RW15 or gyre?

Hello!

So I currently have a gyre 150 on my 55 gallon and it is plenty of power. I am upgrading soon and I want to make sure I have enough flow in this tank for all SPS and anemones.

What do you guys think about either 2 max spect gyre 150s or should I get 2 RW15 for each side and maybe like 2 RW8 for the back walls? I am trying to get as much flow as possible. The RW have a very good price but I am nervous they won't hold up long term and how loud are they because my maxspect gyre 150 turned all the way up is silent.

I'd be more nervous about the Gyre's, they don't hold up very well either. I've been running an RW4 for about a year now in my nano, seems pretty solid to me.

How big is your upgrade going to be? A pair of 150s is going to put out some massive flow...

I run a RW15 in my 75 with a JBWave controller, and like it. I want to go to a Tunze setup (6105s) if I can but while my budget is still pinched I've been happy with the 15s. Seems they should do up to about a 5' 150 fine enough.

I use both. I have a 180 peninsula. I have the Gyre on the far end pushing water towards the drain, and the RW-15s near the bottom pushing water towards the Gyre.

I am upgrading to a 180 gallon, I like the way Terry set up his pumps. I may have to do that.Terry how is the flow coming along? I dont want to have any dead spots at all

I just want to make sure these pumps hold up longer then a year. I saw some people saying they last a long time and other last like half a year on amazon. I know some of those people just take bad care of their pumps but I know most people do here at rc or at least try to so thats why I am trying to get everyones opinion

It's a bit of a crap shoot in my experience. They seem to fail almost immediately, at around a year, or last forever. Buy from a source you're sure won't give you any warranty hassles.

Thank you! I am trying to find a good source but it seems not a lot places sell them. only place I could find is fish-street.com and reefbreeders. fish-street has better prices but I do not know anything about them.

I think fish street is supposed to be pretty good about warranty stuff. There is a bit of a language barrier though. I bought my stuff through Reef Breeders. Had 1 pump die on me after a month, and he sent out a new motor at no cost. The other RW-4 I had, and the one with the replacement motor both lasted over a year until I took them offline for my 125gal upgrade. I have no reason to believe they wouldn't fire right up if I plugged them in now though.

I think these inexpensive powerheads are pretty much disposable. I would expect to get at least a year or two out of them though.
