Hello everyone,
First, let me introduce myself to reefcentral community. I got into this addicted and money-drain hobby about a year ago. I started out with a 75gal mix-reef and quickly upgraded to 190 gal (60x30x24) 4 months later. I was overwhelmed when I got to this hobby with so much to learn and luckily I found reefcentral to be the best place to educate myself
.
Anyway, it is time to upgrade again and this time I want to do the best I can.
I'd like to share and review my design/planning with this community to get the feedbacks and comments.
My goals to achieve for this system:
- I want to have SPS corals in this system
- Sustainable (easy water change where return pump does not need to be turned off, auto-top off, monitoring, control, etc.)
- Efficient plumbing (this tank will be in my living room so all equiments will be under the tank)
- Don't want the grainy spots (not micro bubbles) that are in my current tank and I don't know how to get rid of it.
Below are the few things I have planned so far:
-240 Gal clear-for-life 96x24x24 with 1/2" thickness with two corner overflows - each has 2 holes 1" drain and 3/4" return.
-36" inches stand with 10" canopy
-Octopus Pro 300 Skimmer (Thanks Jeff)
-55 Gal Sump and a secondary sump for the water change
-Closed loop (any suggestions on the equipments?)
-GEN-X PCX 40 return pump (is this adequated?)
-Lights (not sure yet since I don't want the retro fit inside the canopy - somehow I need to come up with a design to have the canopy and the light on top - any suggestions?)
- Calcium reactor (which one should I get?)
- Reef Keeper ELITE system with NET (is Aquacontroller better?)
- UV Sterilizer
- Wave Makers (http://www.aquacave.com/1-scwd-wave-maker-br-switching-current-water-br-director-2065.html)
Am I missing anything important?
Constraints:
-I am married and have 3 kids - so budget is limitted
-Dont' want a chiller
- wife will not be happy with the electrical bill - my 190 gal tank has been ok without the chiller so I think I will be ok with this.
Comments, concerns and feedbacks are appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan
