The branching varieties of both corals grow the fastest IME. One head will split in 2 then 2 heads split into 4 and so on. The biggest keys in growth IMO are maintaining calcium and alk levels along with sufficient lighting and moderate flow.
light and good tank conditions is all they need to flourish.
it is one of those corals that many people keep under lower light as they can tolerate it...but they certainly dont like it nor will they thrive in it. Keep them in higher lighting set ups and they can explode. Ive seen a 10 head caulastrea specimen grow into 3 60-80 head colonies in a little over a year in a healthy sps dominated tank.
