Safest overflow?

as in which one would be the least likely to fail. I heard good things about lifereef and bad things about cpr, are there any others that are a little cheaper then lifereef?

thanks.

LIFEREEF,LIFEREEF AND LIFEREEF!!!..

They are awesome i own the double and a single and my father in law owns 3 of the singles.

It starts right back up after electric goes out. Its great!

thanks, yeah the last thing i want is a flood, is lifereef the only way to go? I took a look at hurricane, anyone else use them?

I use a hurricane, the 1200gph model, it will not do that stock so i bought an extra 2 utube's and it will do it then....still alot cheaper than a hurricane. I have had zero failure's with it and i have never lost syphon, even with a 10hr outage.

Yes, the aquatraders price is nice, but its not a utube overflow. It doesn't really matter what brand you buy, but do make sure its a utube.....your carpet (and wife) will thank you for going that route

Any U-tube one is going to be fine. As long as you have adequate flow, they will be able to push the bubbles out so you don't have any surprises.

Stay away from the C siphons that require an air pump to clear the bubbles.

well im not looking for a high flow fuge/sump, i have a 50 gallon mixed reef and space is limited to 10 gallons underneath the tank, maybe with a 5 gallon fuge attached. I was thinking of using a eheim 1250 return (317 gph) and the hurricane 600 overflow. I assume the Hurricane is just as safe as the Lifereef since it is a u-tube overflow? Let me know what you think.

Jeff

Get an extra utube when you get it, and its safe imo, but not as nice as a lifereef.....but much cheaper.

Do you mean as a spare? You dont want to run dual U Tubes with an Eheim 1250. The flow through the tubes will be too slow to keep the air bubbles pushed through.

Yup, its always nice to have a spare lying around cuz some of the utube's at your lfs won't fit as smoothly. And you need to clean them every so often and this makes it easy.

Hurricane filter works fine ....thats your choice if youre on a budget. I AM and use it

only complaint is the acrylic is super thin and cracked during shipping...rather than complain I just gorilla glued it and went on
works perfectly an auto starts everytime...

if you have money to spare then lifereef or amiracle are good....

but seriously Im just going to sell my tank and eventually start over w/ a reef ready!

I just purchased a Eshopps OF unit from my LFS.

From reading, I set up using a Rio 12 750 gph, but it over powered the flow of the OF rather quickly. After some experimenting, I ended up using a Rio 6 at 350 gph to get a reliable flow.

I am very pleased with this combo, as it is very quiet(Rios have a set of suction cups you can use as feet to quiet the vibration) and the OF is very well built and uses the U tube setup.

The main reason I went with this is all the complaints on CPR's forums about their OF unit.

i heard of amiracle, but couldnt find any prices online, or even a link to just the overflow, anyone have a link?

Havent heard much of the Eshopps either, I looked at their website, but they dont have any prices either, mind if i ask how much you paid?

thanks,

Jeff

Hey Jeff

the l800 model single over flow i got was $60. I can take some pics if you like. It is very high quality compared to any Odyssea acrylic products I have seen. Very close to CPR stuff which I have alot of.

And the Rio pump was about $50 with $10 more in tubing.
