I have an angel fish empreror that has ich and

i know if your raise or lower your salinity it will help kill the ich

but i cant remember which way to is beneficial

thanks

Lowering it to 1.009 SG For 4 weeks should do it....You can drop the salinity in 2-3 days [a couple water changes a day] but after treatment it MUST be raised SLOWLY

You need to watch your PH during Hyposalinity....it can drop to dangerous lows

You really need to do lots of reading on Hypo before you start:)

I've tried the hyposalinity and it worked but it's got to be done in a hospital tank or you kill everything else (I am sure you know that but just in case).

lowering it is how you do it but this is a crappy method IMO....do you have coral or lr(if not copper the tank)if you have coral or live rock obviously dont use copper or if you ever want to make it a reef tank if not already

what caused the ich(let me guess a new fish not QT'd) or poor water quality? best thing IMO is make sure water is pristine...food is enriched...lots of flow...maybe a freshwater or copper dip) or quarintine him is the undoubted method...

if you dont like these suggestions then yes lower your salinity but it isnt a surefire way....basically the idea is the lowered salinity causes more stress to the parasite than the fish and the fish can outlast the parasite at these low salinities(also ich causes fish not to be able to uptake oxygen as well thus impaired breathing and the lower the salinity of the water the more available oxygen for the fish) also along with this you can lower the temperature somewhat as well this is basically the same principle but a different method
