Salinity problem!

So i have a 10g reef thats been doing fairly well; its an immature tank so thriving may not be the best word, also im fairly inexperienced, as this is my first reef tank. I have a t5 quad strip light, it puts off sum heat, but nothing crazy. When i first installed it, the level of evaporation it created was not all that high. My specific gravity reading would hold fairly stable at about 1.024 for 8-12 hours. As time progresses, the specific gravity reading is not nearly as stable. It may hold at 1.024 for only 3-5 hours. My question is: is this unstable reading due strictly to evaporation? Or is there an underlying reason that my salinity now has a tendency to sky rocket? I regularly test my water at petco with "perfect" results, i also test many parameters at home that they do not, including KH, calcium, phosphate. All seem fine except I had a slight increase in phosphate levels that was quickly dealt with, at this point, the only problem i can see is relatively unstable salinity levels. Any help will b appreciated!
Thanx,
Gm

what are you using to measure salinity? if its a hydrometer it is not that accurate. i would use a refractometer to get accurate readings.
