Hello, I just ordered a shipment of fish and coral from this site and I was wondering what the community thinks about them. They had a Nano fish 3 package deal for around 30$ with a Royal Gramma, Tailspot Blenny, and Green Mandarian. I also purchased a 4+ polyp mushroom and metallic star polyp colony. They offered free shipping for live orders over 100$. this will go in my 10G nano tank. I will document this purchase from this thread. I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, so mod's feel free to move it. :dance:

well... I've only made 1 purchase from them years ago and had a good experience with it, however... I'm not sure if you researched that purchase very well because you just killed that mandarin... there is no 10 gallon tank in the world that can support one.
yea I was afraid of that. I was going to try and ween it on Sally's Reef Plankton
or San Francisco Bay Cyclops. If it doesn't feed on that, I'll just donate it to my LFS and tell them to put it in one of their reef tanks.

Save yourself the trouble and just see if you can trade it for something else as soon as you get it. The blenny is gonna be a tough deal as well. If it isn't eating mysis as soon as you get it in your tank then you will need to ditch it as well. Just humor me and look up minimum tank size required on live aquaria.com before you purchase anything. It's not exact info but it gives you a good idea. It says 30g min for a mandarin but in reality they require a 125 or bigger with a healthy supply of pods to thrive.

My Lfs has a 10g on their front counter and it's packed with corals but for fish it has a small hawkish, pair of very small snowflake clowns, and 1 chromis.

I'll update as soon as I get the shipment, but I will most likely take your advice and turn in the Mandarin.

I've had good and bad results with saltwaterfish. They used to have good deals on coral in their free shipping store, but last time I checked they had changed the pricing around a little and it wasn't such a bargain. You get what you pay for though. The quality is inconsistent, and the packaging can be cheap. Like, they take all the little shortcuts to keep prices low. Even the website is a little wonky. I would only buy really hardy fish from them, and even then I would keep my expectation low. Maybe you will get lucky and receive a healthy mandy but I wouldn't count on it.
These riskier vendors are like buying a dog from a shop at the mall. It probably came from a puppy mill and hasn't had all its shots or a vet check, and the guy selling willl tell you it's no problems to keep a Great Dane in your apartment. You can take your chances or you can pay more to the humane society who will get you a healthy dog and try to check that you can take care of it before they hand it over.

I have returned the anemone and donated the Mandarin and Tailspot Blenny to my LFS. Here are a few pics of the Mushroom and star polyps I received from SaltwaterFish.com. I am pretty satisfied as they seem to be doing very good so far. The mushroom was only supposed to have 4+ Polyps, but there are at least 12 on the rock. and the Star Polyp rock is just massive. The Royal Gramma seems to be settling in as well.

this is all true.
but last time i ordered from there i got a mushroom coral that was covered with flat worms.. i had to put it in a 10 gal tank by itself and use flat worm exit... i think there is no such thing as a good place to buy corals and fish anymore.. you just gotta roll the dice and qt everything
Many LFS (almost all) have overstocked tanks with fish that need bigger tanks. Those are temporary living spaces for those fish who are most likely juveniles. You may have short term success but it will catch up to you quickly. Liveaquaria is a quick and dirty look at proper tank requirements as stated by another poster.
