Salute to DLC

Well...I was in an extremely good mood today...and felt a bit silly. So I was in Exotic Aquatics today hanging some Tetra signs. (Walk into the store and walk left towards the saltwater section...only posters on the left wall.)

Well there are five posters hanging waaaaay up there. If you look very closely at the middle one (purple one with the clown loach that says "live fish") you'll notice in very small letters written with a black sharpie marker "Del. Reef Club Rocks - ST" Its hard to read but now every time you guys visit you can see my salute to the reef club-even tho its hard to read.

Kinda like Wall Drug!!

Haver you ever heard about Wall Drug South Dakota? well the yave road side signs all over the world. as you get closer to Wall Drug, a restored western board walk town, you see more and more signs cascading along the road side until you see the very last one that says: TURN HERE!! . and you do. why it's an American icon. the farthest one i have personally seen is outside the train station in Amsterdam, Netherlands. buta friend has
seen one in Tokyo Japan. its kind of a quest to find the most distant Wall Drug sign. and they each tell you the exact mileage back to Wall Drug South Dakota.

I've only live in or driven through 46 of the states , so far. so i might have missed a few.

Yup, I was a road warrior, traveling from one construction job to the next. or just going back packing, when i was younger and not working. (which was often) I spent a lot of time back packing all of western national parks I could, tbor. the mountains are great to get away from it all. but only the one month long trip to europe back in 80 . mostly an art and architecture trip, soaking up the local culture and history by day, and all their beer by night.
I think everyone should get out and see the sights. low cost travel is fun.

Some would say I was spoiled as a kid having spent half my childhood in Europe. My Dad was in the airforce, but my parents considered it a paid vacation and just about every weekend we were headed to someplace different.
Now in college a lot of my classes, for a wildlife conservation major, we go on constant field trips to forest and parks with in driving distance. I would show you some of the photos I've took, but I closed my website to rebuild it.

i'll see if i can find some of my old pics and park maps and stuff. I know ive got some in shoe boxes somewhere. those were the good ole days when i was broke and only had a kodak instamatic box camera i could stick in a pocket. didnt take that many pictures. i had a home made back pack i sewed together out of a big white laundry bag with shoulder straps stitched on made from rolled up corduroy. real low budget back packing. but i could pack everything i needed for a week in the back country in it. and we would hike in 15-30 miles some places. oh and gas was only 22 cents a gallon then. driving cost next to nothing. it would cost the proverbial arm and a leg to retrace my trips now.

No , alaska is one of the 4 states i havent been to,... yet. it would be nice to do a fishing trip trawler cruise on the inside passage some day.

had i been into aquariums back then, i could have visited that cousteau aquarium in monico or monte carlo?. the one that started the invasive taxifolia infestation of the mediteranian sea, back around then. Yes i tried to break the bank at Monte Carlo. but came up a few francs short of this way to the door sir!.

Made your own pack, huh? You're braver than me - I don't know the first thing about what to do with a needle and thread. Yes, I must see your pictures. I'll show you mine from the Whites when I get them up on the website, which should be pretty soon. I'm one of those nuts that tries to get their gear as light as possible, and then lugs around 8lbs of photography equipment! Every 1.5-2lbs I shed in my pack is another lens I get to bring That's all part of why I do it, tho. So what's your favorite place been? Sorry, ST, I've really managed to drag this thread off-topic!!

I dont know what a favorite would be. they were all nice. spent lots of time in yosemite, it was close, big sur, lassen, rainier, yellowstone, glacier, crater lake, zion, bryce canyon... lots of no name places in between. maybe yosemite, because i spent so much time there. big rocks, big water falls.

yup lighter is better. but mostly carried food for a week. not much else.
