Same Clown Different Look

Awesome pictures! I saw the post you did on sweet ride's tank too and really like your style.Keep up the good work and keep posting them up! What camera and lens combo are you using?

Thank you for the kind words folks. I use a Nikon D300 and a Nikon 60mm macro. For fish I use a Nikon SB800. Post processing is photoshop cs5 raw processor. Adjust white and black levels. Healing brush to clean debri in water. Sharpening.

For flash I leave color temp as shot. For corals I never use flash so you have to do a custom white balance to compensate for the blue cast.

The pictures look amazing, but the colors look almost too processed. Maybe soften the image a little to make it a little more natural?

Thanks. I will give that a go and repost over the next few days. Ill work with the second image-Untitled 6 as this is the one I will be enlarging.

I think I figured out what looked off for me. The whites seem too white. It doesn't look like a white fish, it looks like that part of the photo was erased. Would that be from adjusting the white balance? The composition and clarity of the photos is really nice though.

As promised folks. Second image. What do you think?

Here are the details.

Original posted version on left. New version on right.
Shot in RAW WITH flash. ISO 800 f/9 @1/60

NO Saturation touched. No Vibrance touched. No Sharpening done. No White Balancing done. No Healing Brush used.

The only thing that I have done is set the Black Point in Levels to the darkest part of the water which is what I did in the original. There will be a minor color shift as I don't exactly remember what black area I selected in the original at the time.

On my Dell LED monitor ( although not color corrected...yaya...I have to get that done...:headwally:...) it looks pretty natural to me. What are your thoughts??

i like your originals better. They do not look processed to me so much as stylized. I'd pretty much recognize your photos anywhere now...

agreed, sometimes they are not to my taste in terms of processing, however I do always appreciate the style and work. IMO, keep with what your doing.

The new photo looks more natural to me. The white is not so pure as to look erased :). Great shots keep up the good work!
