Same Skimmer Problem!

Ok, I am having this problem again...Everytime I turn off my skimmer and dump my collection cup (not clean it)

I turn it back on and the water doesn't just shoot up tube but the bubbles are higher and so it runs wet...It fills half of the collection cup in a few minutes...I have to watch it closely, dump again, etc... but after a day, it's fine???

The output hose is not submerged, everything is clean, the dial is all the way down...I don't know what to do... It works great but it's kind of a pain!

BTW- I just went in and looked and it's full now and it's only been about 10 minutes...Should I clean the tube in the collection cup? Is this pulling through too much because it's so slimy?

Now, the way I was able to get the flow to slow down since the dial was all the way down was to submerge the output tube in the water rather than just rest it on the bubble diffuser box.

Is this ok?

The output tube should ideally be above water. Make sure the airline is not clogged...sounds like you are not getting the right air mixture.

I agree with Nanook. Also, you do want the riser tube to be clean. Otherwise bubbles won't slide up and over the tube.

Well, I'm certainly not having problems with the bubbles not going through the tube. They are going too much...

Is it ok to submerge the output when I switch till it goes to normal output??? Will it hurt anything?

Try raising the skimmer up higher. Also, make sure you have a very clear airline to the skimmer...check for debris in the skimmer fittings and make sure it is all clean...sounds like you may have an obstruction of some kind or need to raise the skimmer up higher. I would definitely have that skimmer output ABOVE the water, never submerged.

I cut the tube from the pump to the skimmer so the pump would be closer to the top...Would lowering the pump help because I don't have room to move my skimmer any higher due to the stand?

The pump being higher, lower or closer will not have any significant effect.

When the skimmer is overflowing, what do the bubbles look like? Are they very wet? Can you see milky white bubbles in the skimmer body?

The bubbles overflowing are very wet and costant...In the neck/middle, it is all bubbles but not big ones pushing up, it is thousands of very small bubbles. You can't even see the water because it's turned down all the way...But it seems the pressure is still pushing it too much...I will go back and reclean everything but I just did a week ago and the other day???

those css's are a bit of a pain. i use to have the same problem. on the return is there a inlet nipple that sucks air for anti-siphon? if so try capping it with a peice of airline tied in a knot.. that fix it on mine and the return is below the water line.. no bubbles or issues with over flow since capping that hole. now that it works great i love it.

I will try this tonight...Don't I need to keep the Anti-Siphon open though???

So, are you saying, you have your outlet hose submerged in the water?
