San Francisco to ban Pet Sales! Town Meeting tonight!

San Francisco is planning to ban pet sales, except fish! This is the first step to outlawing reefkeeping in general. There is a town meeting tonight. All who care about pets in San Francisco should attend and voice their opinion!

This is serious. Fight for your right to keep companion animals, small pets will go first, then they will take reefs away from us, just like they did in Hawaii!

Yes. All LPS, and SPS corals are banned from home aquariums...you can still take and keeps Zoas and some softies. It all started just like in San Francisco, except the community shot down the banning of companion animals. Reefs were taken away by the HI Dept of Game and Wildlife, no votes needed there.:furious:

It is illegal to harvest stony corals in Hawaii. They are protecting their heavily impacted resource. The reason you can't import corals to Hawaii is to prevent release into the wild where foreign species would have a detrimental impact on the local flora/fauna.

To compare reefing and San Francisco's situation to Hawaii's condition is ridiculous.

I am only letting people know what is going on their community. Have you ever lived in HI? I have, in Hilo, and this is exactly how the ban in HI started, as a Hilo city ordinance. Go back to your knitting, and stop flaming what you know nothing about.

if they put such law in Canada, Id probably be the first getting cought for possision of SPS coral LOL

I know... As for what they do, it's a big fine, from $2k to $10K, and up to 3 months in jail...they look at your electric bill and if it's high code enforcement stops by to see why. They got my brother, but luckily he just had zoas, and some GSP, otherwise he would have been hosed.

It's a stupid law for sure...although I can see why they wouldn't want any corals imported to the State, but why they ban people from having corals is beyond me. Even local companies like IPSF can't sell corals to locals...

Classic SF logic. "Let's 'help' the people who can't keep themselves from impulse buying small pets by banning pet sales. Damn the small business owners." Cue a new local govt. agency that will get to enforce this law. Maybe they'll just get the CO police that are already trolling around dinging people for their carbon footprint to enforce it.
