Sand Bed Alternatives..

I'm looking for a type of sand that I can use to mix with my live sand as a sandbed for my new tank. I've seen in my LFS they are selling a 50lb bag of fine Montery beach sand. Some people warned me that some might be high in Silicates. I've seen also in some forums that they use a certain play sand that you can get in a hardware store. So i need some directions on what type of sand to get & what too look out for.
