sand bed question

I used the wrong type of sand for the sand bed when I set up my 55G tank. It's a mixture of crushed coral and fine sand, about 3 - 4 " deep. There are a lot of worms, etc. in there. Can I use this sand in my new tank if it's only about 2" deep? Or am I better off getting new live sand?

The type of sand (fine/Coarse) used is important when using a DSB (Deep Sand Bed) to ensure it can support the appropriate critters. If your going with only 2" the sand is mainly for appearance. If it looks appealing to you, keep what you have.

Also, even if you do get new sand, don't bother with store-bought "live sand"--just get regular aragonite (much cheaper) and seed it with some from you existing tank--it will be "live" in no time.
