Sand depth for goby/shrimp pair

What do you guys suggest for depth when it comes to sand for a shrimp and goby pair? I've seen a lot of varying information online ranging anywhere from half an inch to 4 inches. I currently have varying depths with the lowest being maybe an eight of an inch to an inch and a half at the deepest. Generally I'd say around the rocks it looks to be around half an inch. Is this sufficient for a goby shrimp pair? Will I need to add some more sand?

You can have areas which are deeper than others. Going for a deep sand bed can set you up for problems if it is not cleaned properly and often. FWIW my diamond goby digs around the bases of the rock structure and creates hills and valleys. The watchman goby will do similar. Two - two & a half inches should be sufficient.

The Goby will rearrange the sand as it sees fit. My diamond Goby likes to burrow; I don't think it would be happy with 1/2".

I have a 5" sand bed and my Diamond Goby digs all the way down to the bottom of the tank. He does this in several places throughout the tank. He sleeps in the same hole (under a rock) each night and pushes up the sand to close off the entrance.
