Sand in a fish only tank

I am putting together my new 75gal tank. I was wondering how high should I go with the sand. I was thinking of puting it up to bottom trim piece or a liitle higher, say 1.5''- 2'' would that be ok?

I would try to keep it at the trim line, or below it at least in the front of the tank. The sand doesnt look so nice after awhile when its pressed up against the glass.

I am a fan of DSBs. I use, and personally recommend around 3". As long as you keep the sand clean I think it looks nice above the bottom trim.

I'll throw in a vote for the shallow sand bed. I started out with 4 inches of aragonite but over the past two years have gradually siphoned off about 2 inches or so. For a FOWLR, it's fine. A shallow bed can still harbor some worms and microfauna. My sand now is just below the trim. Makes cleaning easy.

Thanks!

My freind who has been hobby for awhile suggested that it be ok if I placed my fish and live rock in my new tank set-up and place sand in it a little later.....would that be ok?

FYI
I'm replacing my 46gal with a new 75gal. I'm using all the water from my tank. Plus I'm using 30gal from my freinds tank, and about 15gals of new water.
