Sand or rock?

Do derasa's like to be in the sand (with a rock under it, I know, I know) or do they like to be just on a rock that is off of the sand?

I would say a flat rock would be better. Something about this particular clam species that will turn on its side if put on te sand. The sand supposedly irritates the membrane that joins the shell. HTH

On a rock, or on a rock in the sand?

you can place the rock an inch or so under the sand,and some times it will help to put some rubble next to the clam to keep it up.
