Sand to start 125 gallon...

What kind of sand should I use to start my 125 gallon, fish and live rock to start with. Its 72x18x18. How many pounds for a shallow sand bed? There are so many types out there. Does it make a difference?

I just went with about 140lb Carib Sea special grade for my 210g. It's the same footprint as your tank. This grain size tends to be ideal as it's small enough for gobys to sift, pods to swim through, but not too small that it gets blown around your tank much. I found it a good balance between cosmetics and functionality.

Sorry wrong foot print actually, mine is 24" deep, so you'd probably want 100lb or so

Im probably 1-2 weeks out from filing the tank. Should I wait to order it until I am ready to fill the tank? Will it hurt to go ahead and order and have it sit in the bags for a couple weeks?

I haven't started my tank yet but I went with 120 lbs of tropic eden miniflakes for 160g 72x24x24 tank. It'll be sitting in bags from wherever you buy it from so makes no difference if it sits in bags at your house until you use it, ordered mine two months ago and won't use it for another month once my build gets started.
