I would check the legalities, but Howard beach right by where you live, has beautifull sand. Try and walk out several feet to colect it. You don't want the stuff on the beach.

Beach sand is fine just make sure it is clean. Beach sand is pretty nice because of all the little things in it but it is silica sand either way. So whatever is easiest for you will work.

Is the quickcrete premium play sand good? it doesn't say anything about silica...so I don't know...I bought a 50# bag of it for like 4 bucks...

Yup that is fine. Just rinse it really good and make sure you like the color. Sometimes, sand can be pinkish or beige.
