I have a Toadstool that has been in my JBJ 28 pro LED for a long time.

The only recent changes I have made are as follows.

I switched from ESV to Seachem 2 part, as a trial.

Water parameters.

Salinity 35PPT
Alk 9.2
CA 440
NO3 2.5PPM
PO4 undetectable.

All my other corals are doing great and none are touching.

Situation:

It has been exactly one week since this leather has opened at all.It actually has a small amount of algae type material growing on it. I have wiped it all off today and it is firm and feels like a normal leather.

I have never had a toadstool leather close for more then 5 days.

Any Thoughts?

I will attach a photo in a moment....

No necrosis I can find.... Whole coral feels firm.....

Forgot to add this above PH is 8.25
I'm wondering if it does not like the new 2 part????

Very confused here...

Probably irritated it by switching. Should be ok. I had one that didnt extend polyps for 8 months now. Its growing fine and just started extending polyps just recently. This was my only coral to do this.

I know they can get irritated and close up for awhile, I just have never experienced any time period like this. if you had one close 100% for 8 months, I am just getting started potentially.

In 12 years I have never had once close like this one.....

Guess it will just have to adjust or leave itself in time out.

i have been growing leathers for quite some time and this is normal behavior for them, they close for weeks on end sometimes. If its not decaying or falling appart to the touch i would not worry to much. In one of my tanks all the sacro's go through the phase at the same time. It really odd they will be closed for a week or so then all of them film up..release the film then open up full and vibrant all together...today was one of them mornings and the tank looked awsome!! When they are closed it just looks like i got masses of lumpy flesh in my tanks..lol.

Really, I thought 26ppt was too much.

Its a shedding that looks like a thin film..almost like the coral looks wet or shiny. And yes sometimes a bit of algea will also grow on that film/shedding. I just gently turkey baste it away to help along the process when it happens.
