Hi all,

I would like to add something like sargassum to my main tank. Where can it be purchased?

Also, I would appreciate any advise on reef friendly plants and where to get them.

Umm i have as much as you could ever want

Umm i have as much as you could ever want

Ummm.. yeah
I live two miles from the beach in miami, sargassum floats up to the beaches here in massive amounts, i can get you as much as you want, ill even treat it with anti parasite/biotic/fungal solution if you want, i feed it to my tank all the time, and sometimes there are small good critters of all kinds living on it like live rock. Just pull off what you dont want..

I just came back from Daytona Beach, it's washed up all over. The sargassum roots unattach from anchoring objects and float to the surface with roots still whole with the rest of the macro because of the need for high light. I've been keeping my collection outside in a vase because it seemed to die off when I brought it inside.

I've got to treat mine. What do you use to treat yours, RyanQK?

I use "Paraguard" by Seachem, its filter/fish safe, and treats parasites, fungus, bacteria, and viral lesions, all in one easy to measure dose 1 cap=10gl . i typically go swim out to get it while its floating in the water still, on the west coast of florida it is common to find seahorses, and other awesome species living in it, i found 3 in only 30mins once last summer, but i released them.

As for roots, its a type of weed that thrives just floating around on the open ocean for long periods of time, many pelagic fish hide beneath massive mats of it. But it originates in the sarrgasso (sp?) sea in the middle of the atlantic, however it does need bright light in captivity
